20. Outer Voices

Can we be open to the wisdom of others while honoring our truth above all else?

While discussing the “Great Shift” that occurs when we begin to live an intuitively guided life, Tarot teacher Lindsay Mack posed this question. And her words struck a chord with me.

I regularly call upon my beloved support system for insight, guidance, and perspective. They help me gain clarity on what my inner voice is saying. Feeling disappointed, defensive, excited, or relieved in response to an outside opinion is all valuable information about what I truly desire. However, there have been times where those outside voices have swayed me away from honoring my intuition. In those circumstances, I hold on to the should’s, which are often tied to social acceptance and belonging.

Rephrasing Lindsay’s question, I ask myself:

Can I listen to outer voices without drowning out my inner voice?

Next time I’m at a crossroads, I’m curious to explore what it’s like to turn inwards for guidance without seeking any outside opinions. Can I trust that my inner voice is the only voice that matters? And to go one step further, can I trust that I don’t need anyone else’s approval of my inner voice, my intuition, my truth?

Can I be my own North Star?
